Very pale yellow. An exceptionally pretty nose shows only the slightest signs of development, offering aromas of both fresh and dried lemon peel, green apple, white flowers, dandelions, crushed stones and a whiff of toast. Medium bodied on the palate with medium+ acidity, this has a very bright, lithe and zesty feel. This can surely last for years but it is exceptionally good right now.

A couple of years in the cellar has been very positive. I suspect another 2-3 would not hurt, but hey why not drink it. The bright lemon character is still at the fore, but there’s a richer textural component now, and that balances out the tart element of the fruit. The finish has a hint of creaminess, so there is this yin-yang of the bright up front, and the creamy in the finish. Invigorating on its own, and bold enough to work with richly flavored food, it’s in a really good spot right now, but no worries for a long time to come. DIAM-10 closure, so no potential TCA traps, and just a sure fire pleasure as always with Ramey Chardonnay.

4th Saturday Group: Uptown Brown Bag (R&Ds): Double blind. Pale yellow color. Lemon, stone, mineral and apple aromas with a cottony note in the background. Lovely fruit on the palate, apple and citrus. Incredibly bright acidity as well, which had me absolutely convinced that this was French. I guessed 2015 Corton Charlemagne and never would have imagined this was California, let alone a Ramey.

Very good example of a CA chardonnay. Butter on the palate with a slight oak backing. Decent nose of slight vanilla. Really nice with a meal.
