  • Let breathe for 45 minutes and it opened up nicely. Notes of cherry, cranberry, and red fruit. Medium body, with medium length finish, smooth tannins. The wine is drinking very well right now.

  • Notes of cranberry, mushroom, orange peel, compost. Juicy red fruit, salinity and umami on the palate. A bit on-descript, lacking presence.

  • ruby colour in the glass with light to medium body. the lovely Anderson Valley sous-bois aromas are there, along with black tea, drying rose petals, red cherries and currants. the fruit attack is mellow and agreeable with waves of cola, pomegranate and strawberries flavours subdued by very silky tannins, while notable acidity adds a bit of sizzle. by the second glass the wine becomes broader and even more inviting as additional secondary layers start coming thru. it finishes very long, with a little white pepper and star anise punctuating the cherry notes.

it is likely at peak and should stay there for another couple of years.

  • Copain has done well on the Pinot. It still has nice fruit & takes time to evolve in the glass. Consistently having this wine over 6 months about 1 bottle a month & it seems to always be good choice & drinks well.

  • [0.7] Blinds at Angler (Angler, SF): (Blind)
    Medium ruby.
Reductive burnt toast and deep, juicy red cherry. This has Pinot-like fruit (reductive red fruit).
On the palate…damn this is good.
Medium body, 13.5% alcohol (slightly elevated) (actually 12.9%!). Medium plus acid, medium minus tannins - satiny. Long finish with red cherry. Mostly neutral oak. Lots of fruit.

Laterals (Thin skinned red with slight oak and Pinot-like fruit.)
    - burgundy - this could be from a warmer vintage.
    - NZ, CA, OR pinot - cooler vintage and more old-world producer of OR. CA would have more alcohol probably. NZ tends not to use this much oak.
    - Beaujolais - could be a more serious cru with no carbonic…if I’m misreading that there’s oak.

I think this is a Pinot. Within Pinot, this has a lot of fruit, but medium ripeness (some red cherry and some nectarine/peach) so cooler climate. Slight oak.

Final call: Oregon 2019 Pinot Noir. Excellent quality.
    Actual: Sonoma Pinot 2019.

Analysis - I overestimated the alcohol, but generally read the style correctly.
