This was big and bold. Took about 1 hour to blossom. Huge black licorice and some mint menthol. Velvet blackberry on the palate. Served with rib eye, wine of the popes

Revised from earlier. On opening: too much sulphur and some residual CO2. On finishing: earthy and mellow, honey and oats, in an alternate universe I think I just drank a bowl of granola. Will give this another try.

At first pour right out of the bottle I was not that impressed. But by happy accident I left this bottle open for a week. Upon re-tasting it had developed deep layers of mushroom, earth and bacon fat, with a complementing dose of dried cherry and fig, nutmeg and clove. Full bodied, with a very long finish, powerful, with somewhat overwhelming tannins. I think this needs time in the cellar for the flavors to develop and the tannin to mellow, and could be a real surprise in 5+ years.

nose - heat, lacquer/varnish quality mouth - big mouth full of fruit but also lots of alcohol. it was less enjoyable with the food which seems contradictory for an italian wine. rich mouth feel -dates, raisins, still considerable tannins. surripe.

I can’t say it isn’t typical; I can say that 16% is not a place I enjoy.
