Community Tasting Notes (16) Avg Score: 91.7 points

  • Dark ruby, initially reluctant aromas lead to dusty, mineral-inflected, spice-laden, gingerbread and Chinese preserved plum aromas. With further aeration, the nose turns more brooding, dark-fruited, tobacco-scented, and regal. Pure, elegant, refined. Youthful palate of cherry, pomegranate, and spice. A truly delightful bottle that was more slowly consumed and thoroughly enjoyed than the previous one reviewed.

  • Dark ruby in color. It emanates a very elegant floral nose of violets, lavender, and bergamot, with deeper, subtle undertones of black cherry liqueur and heme. Opulent, regal, profound. The mouthfeel reflects mineral-infused red fruits trending to cherry, as well as blackberry, lavender, and sandalwood (more apparent on the palate than the nose). The detractor is the obviously high acidity that casts a shadow on the flavors.

  • I believe it needs more time. It seems like it needs a few more years to come together and develop. Score could be higher or lower in score in a few years. It's hard to tell.

  • Two bottles opened together. Perplexing. Reviewed my earlier notes and other reviews from a variety of sources.
Conclusion: it's either an excellent but overpriced 92pt Burgundy or needs much more time to evolve into something exceptional (93+?+).
I'm backing the latter - holding remaining bottles till 2025 at the earliest.

  • Returned from otherwise magnificent Iceland's near (decent) wine-desert. Celebrated with some pheasant and (after 2.5yrs since last outing) this now ready GE.
Violets, quite rich dense cherry and dark hedge fruit core that one expects from this appellation. Mellow, broadened out and with decent balancing acidity. The question is - will this continue to flesh out with significant further ageing or fall flat on its face. I fear the latter. Excellent, if somewhat below expectation.
Now and over the next 5 years. 91?+
