  • The favorite of the three, golden colored, full bodied, rich, round, concentrated, elegant and balanced, bright vibrant apple and hints of peach fruits with notes of floral, citrus and stone fruits, spice and tangy acidity on a tongue coating lingering finish.

  • I recently sat down with the Westside Farms 2016 Chard. Up now is its mate acquired at the same time...the Rochioli. This is a massive vineyard really not far from Westside but it's quite amazing how just a little distance makes such a big difference. Mostly Clone 5 fruit, Westside Farms mostly Clone 4. What's the difference? It's likely they both come from Louis Martini Carneros. If I had to choose Westside vs Rochioli, I think the Rochioli edged it out. This Rochioli is really good with am additional couple of years in the bottle. The nose is very captivating. Creme Brulee, opulent, yet I was still getting this apple and white peach thing and there was still a part of this wine that told me "hold on, I'm not as 'tux and tails' as you think"). Entry is a bright wine, good acidic character and salinity. Kiwi, mature white peach, but still felt like this one had a very sweet apple pie kind of note in the middle. Finished more opulent and rounded than it started. Went well with a chicken and mushroom dish, but surprisingly I was drinking on this after dinner and had a big slice of honeydew apple with this and WOW! Explosion in the mouth! The fusion of tastes was incredible and a bit unexpected. Neither the apple nor the wine stood the chance. They were both gonners! This wine has incredible structure and will last a LONG TIME in the cellar. But I definitely believe it needed a couple of years to integrate and has done it VERY WELL!
