This wine has a medium lemon color with medium intensity aromas of coconut, vanilla, and pineapple with a hint of apricot. On the palate, the flavors are ripe with pineapple and coconut followed by vanilla, apricot, lemon curd and spice. The wine has medium acidity and alcohol and is full bodied. An excellent wine.

Chappellet vertical (incl. the legendary 1969): More masculine, dense and more oak influences showing than the Combsville Chardonnay. At first a bit too much and too fat but with time in the glass it became more harmonious with a nice floral component reminiscent of a Viognier. A solid effort which would need more precision to play in the big league.
TN: At first dense, packed showing yellow fruit and sweet oak aromas. With time more balanced with the oak retreating and a soft florarl component as well as some herbs and minerality. Medium- complexity, medium- precision, good length. Fun to drink.
Decanting: A solid hour in the decanter will certainly make the wine a much more harmonious experience vs pnp.

Chappellet tasting (Napa Grill, Zurich): Part of a Chappellet tasting showing a total of 16 wines including a Prichard Hill mini-vertical (7 vintages from 1969 to 2016) attended by Cyril and Blakesley Chappellet. The one highlight I will never forget was clearly the 1969 Pritchard Hill that knocked me out of my socks. In more recent vintages the 2013-16 representatives come across less extracted and more complex that the 2007-12. The whites were decent but can't compete in the Permier League. Also had a bottle of the 2016 PNV which was unfortunately closed but showed great potential.
Tasting note: Fat, opulent and almost oily on the nose with a mix of tropical (pineapple) and citrus fruit. A touch of spices. Floral components on the palate almost reminding me of a viognier. Personally prefer the crisper styles.

Lovely (but) full throated Chardonnay. Good balance, but clear flavors of oak/vanillin coming through that may limit some food pairings.

A bigger and oakier Chardonnay than usual for a Ramey. Paired nicely with lobster rolls.
