The high rating is only because (something I don't always do) I followed my wine-life guideline of buying modest bottles and then leaving them alone for a few years, probably more than the consumer norm.
Anyway, this is now become an interesting and deep and complicated-tasting modest CdR, not past prime at all, though I would not cellar it another 4y. About to have w red-lentil pasta w spicy garlicky pesto.

What a fun wine: easy to appreciate, easy to drink, approachable. Nice fruitiness all the way through. Appreciate it for what it is and what you paid for it at Costco! Very Good Price Quality Ratio. A good way to get initiated to Cotes du Rhone villages: the "villages" component designates older vines with more depth. Don't look for the subtlety and leathery oakiness of Bordeaux, this is a Grenache-Syrah-Mourvedre blend that brings blackberry fruit, pepper and vanilla with little acidity.. The more expensive CDR's will bring more complexity and/or boldness (try Gigondas, or Vacqueyras). Enjoy it with flavorful/bold meat / dishes or even on its own. I love both Bordeaux and Cotes du Rhone, hope you will too.

Whew, this has got to be one of the biggest, heaviest CdRVs I've ever had. Super ripe, with huge alcohol heat that borders on isopropyl intensity. There's a tart edge to the red fruits that helps a bit, as does the nice acidity, but this thing makes for a bruising sip. Overblown, overwrought, and unbalanced.

Best QPR in two years. Dark fruits, blackberry, spicey finish with nice acidity that will improve. At $6.99 this is an insane price. Patrick Lesec & Kirkland knocked it out. I bought a few then bought 4 cases. Will drink I over next 3 years.

Served @ room temp to accompany Meatballs & Mashed Potatoes entree. Deep clear Ruby Red in the glass, Blackberry on the nose with Blackberry, Plum, Dark Cherries and a hint of black pepper on the palate. Medium body, 14.0% abv; tannins are neither prominent not subdued. Well-balanced with a lingering finish, pleasing but a little tart.
A nice wine for the price ($7 @ Costco).
