1987 Champagne and some more: Fat and beautiful. Medium bodied, not heavy due to overall plush nature. Hint of vegetables on the nose. Beautiful mature champagne.

An evening with Laurent-Perrier (Connaught Hotel, London): Mid straw, turning gold, but still some green tinges. Powerful nose - dry bread and blackcurrants with some candied peel. Rather odd on the palate - almost dis-integrated (the hyphen is deliberate there). Powerful flavours too, but it just doesn't seem to be at all together. I went back to this a few times to try different bottles and, while there was undoubtedly some bottle variation, they were all rather unimpressive.

Bibendum Laurent Perrier Champagne tasting and dinner (Connaught Hotel, London): Straw coloured, with some green tinges. Very slight whiff of cork on first inspection, but didn't get anything on further inspection or tasting (some bottle variation evident with different bottles, but no massive improvement). The notes that were there had intense nutty dimension and not much else. Not much going for it.
