  • Double decanted back into bottle. Nice aroma of dark fruits and barrel spice from decanter. Poured dark all the way to rim. Nose of dark plums, spice. Flavors matched aroma profile, modest tannins into a medium finish. After 2nd glass, wine started to go flat.
Unfortunately for this Rioja, drank next to a delicious Lot 234 de Negoce 2020 RRV Pinot which was just hard to put down the wine glass.

  • ABV: 13.5%. Had a glass of this wine during lunch and then another glass at dinner to see how it opened up and evolved. This is still a very young wine, but it has a lot of potential. Upon opening, there's a smokey, meaty note mixed with roasted herbs and a hint of black fruit in the background. The mouthfeel is very tannic and it isn't really enjoyable at this point. However, that all changed when I had the glass during dinner. Now the wine was more expressive with dark red fruits with a hint of leather. The tannins have softened, but still has some grip. There's well-integrated acidity to lift the fruits (think plums, cherries, pomegranates, etc.). The finish is good, but this wine still needs more time. I'd keep my bottle at least until the 15-year mark (2029), but if you're planning to open your bottle soon, decant it for at least an hour.

3/6/2023 - Raised the score by two points. 24 hours after opening, the tannins have softened up even more and the red fruits are brighter and juicier than yesterday. The acid is keeping everything lively on the palate and lengthened the pleasant finish. This is a lovely Rioja with a lot of potential so I would recommend waiting until it's ready to be enjoyed.

  • Violets and sandalwood on the nose. Tastes of cassis, chocolate, menthol. Disappointingly flabby and Napa-esque with treacly chocolate coating the mouth. I expected a '14 to taste fresher. The lift others mentioned is nowhere to be found.

  • A touch more developed but otherwise similar to the 6/17/20 bottle.
