  • Sat, 04/13/19, $2 Tasting: 30% ea Syrah & Grenache, 25% C.S., 10% Tempranillo, & 5% Carignan grown in different types of soils @ 150-450m elev & yielding 40-50hl per ha; Varieties were vinified separately in s/sl tanks @ 24-28 C, macerated for 8-10 days, & aged on the lees for 5 mos in tank; 14.5% ABV, <2 g/l R.S., & 5.1 g/l T.A.; ~ 4,100 cs produced

N: Slightly closed; RIPE berries atop earth with notes of spice

P: MF, poss Med, body; Very RNDISH entry with nice, ALMOST swtish frt (approaching threshold R.S.?) met by astringent pucker which, while staying within hailing distance of the init frt, transitions into a LONG, poss very, VERY slightly bitterish finish with a very, VERY slight tanginess & a definite SWEETNESS to the dusty tannins. NEEDS through '19, then drinking through '23? My VG+/EXC-, arguably the higher based upon the QPR of this vendor's $10.95, which is $6 < either of wine-searcher's other 2 postings! 93 pts Suckling, 91 Guía Peñín, & 3* (Silver) Selection Das Genussmagazin.

  • Sat, 01/19/19, $2 Tasting (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): 30% ea Syrah & Grenache, 25% C.S., 10% Tempranillo, & 5% Carignan grown in different types of soils @ 150-450m elev & yielding 40-50hl per ha; Varieties were vinified separately in s/sl tanks @ 24-28 C, macerated for 8-10 days, & aged on the lees for 5 mos in tank; 14.5% ABV, <2 g/l R.S., & 5.1 g/l T.A.; ~ 4,100 cs produced

    N: RIPE, raisins; Intensity lurking?

P: LM body; NICE, ALMOST swtish frt met by astringent pucker which only somewhat resolvs by the LONG, very, VERY slightly puckerish finish with a swtness & HINTS of raisins to the dusty tannins. NEEDS into, probably through, '20, then drinking for 3, poss 4, yrs more. My VG+/EXC-, certainly the higher IF one can discount the raisins & gives credence to the QPR of this vendor's $10.95, for which I saw no other U.S. source. 93 pts Suckling, 91 Guía Peñín, & 3* (Silver) Selection Das Genussmagazin.
