Deep garnet with a clear rim. Notes of cherry raspberry and alcohol. Cherry notes up front with bright acidity, followed by some dustiness, a little earthy bramble and some cigar box. Medium finish and a passage that is not particularly refined. Showing some age. In fact, a little more age than this wine should have been allowed to accumulate. Past its prime but still nicely flavorful. Tannins are softening and acid is still very present but the fruit is understated.

Purchased as a glass off the list at the Wood Tavern, Oakland. Tart fruit on the nose; on the palate, very accessible with a cruising 4th gear smoothness; must have been decanted or opened for awhile. Notes of tobacco, flowers and bitter berries with a sharp, dry finish. Decent quaffer with food. Good.

Brilliant deep purple. Heady, explosive aromatics right out of the bottle with black raspberry and cherry quickly joined by some higher VA tones and a bass note of tar. Medium weight and lively in the mouth due to bright acidity. Excellent fruit carries through. Crunchy and fresh.

Nose is rich and full of fruit. An excellent example of Dolcetto, ripe fruit, soft, well balanced, medium body and finish. A good red for summertime meals when a barolo or barbaresco would be too heavy for the fare. Also nice with barbeque, some pasta sauces, grilled fish. I have been buying Scavino's version for several years, he gets more body and richer fruit in the bottle than most producers.

This is maybe the 2nd time I've had a taste of dolcetto - didn't really do anything for me. Nothing to distinguish this the way good sangiovese or nebbiolo interest me.
