Red cherries, ripe strawberries, dried spices and some smoky and earthy notes. Feels a bit dirty and wild. A nice fresh acidity in the background. Great depth and a nice overall balance. Nice long and fresh finish. Plenty great years ahead but it’s starting to get into a nice spot. (IG)

During a MOT Gantenbein Masterclass. Martha and Daniel, who single-handedly created the first high quality Swiss Wine of World renown, starting 40 years ago, walked through their Kaizen approach of work, clonal selection, vineyard and Cuvée mgmt. The wines were consistently of high quality. I wish there were more Gantenbeins in the Swiss wine landscape, especially the Romandie. TN: Lighter and cooler than the 2016 but of equal quality. Precise with red cherries and underbrush notes. Great elegance here

PnP although in hindsight carafing would have been better. On the nose, cherry, smoke, some nutmeg and clove. Very good balance between acidity and the fruit. Lots of finesse.
