Semi-Blind tasting of 5 Jupiter wines. One hour decant. The group literally could not agree on the color of this wine. Cherry and plum on the nose, along with lavender, bell pepper, tomato leaf and salami. Strong plum and cherry on the palate with slate and tobacco towards the long finish.

A deep crimson blend of 88% Grenache and 12% Syrah, the 2017 Halos de Jupiter Châteauneuf-du-Pape delivers the goods in every respect. Loaded with red bramble fruits, Provençal herbs, fig, white pepper and mulling spices, it is a full-bodied, freshly acidic wine with well-woven alcohol (listed as 15%) and oak. The tannins are plentiful and carry some grip that is pervasive throughout the dense mid-palate. Finishing long and with notes of iron, this is a tremendous Châteauneuf that is delicious in its youth and has the structure to age gracefully throughout the decade. Drink now-2030.

This was only ok. Took at least an hour for moderate acidity to settle down. Mid-palate fruit was dark cherry. No real spice. I was rather underwhelmed by this bottle, given the price. Would not buy more.

This wonderful balanced CdP was an eye opener. Nice smooth dryness and the impression of alkalinity balance some fruitiness.
