  • Barolo Birthday Celebrations: Decanted for 2 hours before enjoying over a few hours. I wish I had given this more time because this got better and better as the night went on. The last sip was definitely the best. This was my first Gaja, and the complexity and depth on the palate blew me away. This had a mix of purple and dark ruby berries with crushed flowers, balsamic, and a little menthol and tobacco. It was the biggest wine of the four Barolo's and was my WOTN. 95-96

  • Terlato Cru Tasting (Ever - Chicago IL): Tasting, brief note. So much like the Conteisa just tasted, but (a) more of everything good, (b) even better, and (c) slightly more accessible and charming right now. Still, better to cellar until 2025 or later, 94-95+ point potential.

  • Pure clear ruby red color. Intense and powerful flavor aromas that creates desire from the first second. Indescribable depth! Lovely autumn leaves, tar, licorice, smoke, clear truffle and fabulous deep saltiness lie above the darker fruit with the overweight of plums and raspberries.

Pretty full-bodied and powerful wine that creates lust with dense dark fruit, tar, light truffle, licorice and leather. Firm tannins build around the wine and will preserve the fruit of a long Nebbiolo life. Lightly dried fruit and a touch of alcohol on a dense finish. The aromas already radiates, but the mouthfeel provides dense and somewhat more tight wine. But this is fabulous quality. Brilliant wine. 95 points.

  • Tasted at the Barolo and Barbaresco World Opening Tasting Event in NYC. Unfortunately for Gaja, I tasted this right after the Fenocchio 2016 Baroli making for a very difficult comparison. This is obviously modern, with some new oak barrique influence in the nose of strong vanilla. Nose also had a little prune/raisin. This is, of course, from the more ripe and forward 2015 vintage but it is very well balanced with powerful structural acidity and tannin. Palate has the expected rose petals, cherry and truffles and a nice long finish. Needs some time in the cellar for sure.
