Just a splash from coravin. Uber ripe yet balanced nose of milk chocolate, caramel, humidor and tobacco. Very ripe and balanced on the palate. Finish is a bit short. Extremely impressive for its price. 94-95.

The nose on this is a smoky chocolate knockout! Reminds me of a quilceda creek with allot more restraint in extraction and sweetness. I don’t get the over ripe comments at all. I think this shamelessly oaked cote rotied style Bordeaux is ready to go! Very likable. Drink

Drunk alongside the 2018 Tertre Roteboeuf. Similar on the nose to the TR but perhaps not quite as exaggerated (the TR actually smelt of butter). Definitely more structured on the palate. Otherwise, I agree with the comments below - this will only improve and was best on day 3.

The combination of 2018 & Mitjavile has delivered a predictably muscular & stacked RDC. Both NM & Julia Harding note the excess of oak in their notes but personally I found the ripeness of the fruit & subsequent flavours more of a challenge. For me they were bordering on the overripe, jammy flavours more reminiscent of Parkerised Shiraz than Bordeaux. That said, it mellowed out nicely over a couple of days & showed a few glimpses - perhaps it’s just a bit raw at this stage & will tell its story more poetically in a decade or so.

The hint of chocolate, smoke, licorice, old wood, and black cherry come alive this year. The fruit has a wildness to it along with sweetness, freshness and purity. The energetic, lusty finish wraps everything nicely.
