The nose is divided between blackcurrant, red fruits, spices, faded rose and leather.
In the mouth it is a wine sure of its strength. Far from being extravagant, I find a very classic side to it, almost Bordeaux, with a superb complexity, especially with floral notes that I am not used to finding in Australian wines. The wine is silky, mature and structured, with fruit sprinkled with tobacco and spice. Excellent balance and explosive finish on caramel and spices opening the way to great length.
It's excellent.

Opened 30 minutes before drinking, no decant. The nose reminded the person I drank the bottle with of a Pauillac, so I concur with the previous reviewer. Beautiful, complex wine at peak where it should stay for a while. Great example of the ageworthiness of "new world" wines.

Yvelin's birthday; 9/5/2021-9/6/2021: Bordeaux-like on opening with strong cassis notes but put on Syrah characteristics with time. Nice juxtaposition between the savoury elements of Syrah and the sweetness of fruit from the new world, very serious wine that I enjoyed but lacked the x-factor of the Jim Barry last month.

This wine needs a lot of time. I had a 2006 vintage before which was a bit of an alcoholic mess but this was superb. Cassis, black fruits, leather on the palate with a hint of sweetness which took most people to Spain or Italy. It is a great expression of AU Shiraz in a full-throttle manner that has achieved balance. High end AU Shiraz needs at least 25 years to shed its baby fat in my experience.
