  • Stubborn cork. Fragrant. Initially felt sweet without feeling sugary, and wondered what I was tasting and if I liked. Next day it has calmed down, and I do like.
Fruity and peppery. Tannins. A good syrah at this price and more available than Carlisle, which still is the benchmark for me for the bucks. Fruit is very good and dry made dryer by tannins. Don't think its alcohol causing this. Quick finish but lingers at side of tongue. Ready now with fruit but more time might soften and balance this. If drinking now perhaps give it some air or decent to get it to show at its best.

  • Second bottle bought earlier this summer after visit to tasting room. This wine impressed us enough that we added two bottles of it to our other wines bought at the time, wasn't anticipating buying this one prior to the visit. First bottle of the purchase consumed later this summer, popped and poured and was great. Opened this second bottle last night and allowed the bottle to sit open for about an hour before drinking -- it started off hotter and a bit more closed than I had remembered. It opened up slowly in the glass. We decided to use an aerating pouring spout (had a bunch on hand received as a gift but had never used before) when pouring the second half of the bottle -- this second glass was better at initial taste and opened up further and faster.

Not sure whether the difference was bottle-to-bottle variation or just the evolution of the wine and it's now in a place where it needs a bit more air, but would recommend a short decant or other aeration at this time. Still a great wine and something I'd buy again, just needs a bit more TLC right now to show to its potential.

  • Tasting pour. On the nose: ripe red and black fruit; soft bacon fat, soft tar/grilled nuts. Good density and ok acid, but a touch fat with black fruit. A bit short on the mid and the finish. Ok typicity; soft tannin and a little bit of tang on the finish. Not bad.

  • A bit reductive; but that blew off. Ripe raspberries, cherries, leather and black pepper. Full bodied, good tannins. Well balanced Syrah

  • The 2007 rendition of these was quite a wine. I think the ‘18 is as well.
