First of 2 ($17.99) from the big box wine store. Short note here, for a wine brought to Steve and Patty’s and consumed with charcuterie. Very definitely in the “cool climate” syrah bucket, with tart red berries, tons of pepper, ground spice, dry earth, violets and funk. Acidity is the name of the game here, leading the fruit, and tannins, around by the nose so that I wondered if this might have worked better with a well-seasoned dish than with snacks. Having not had this cuvee, this vintage or otherwise, before, I’m not sure if this is a fruit-lite wine, the fruit hasn’t really come out yet or the fruit has faded (subject to the fact that I don’t think it was ever, nor was I wishing it to be, a SQN). I’ll hold my other bottle for a bit. Certainly not bad, and better than what I’d expect for a wine blindly bought at this price point, but having had pinots and chards from this producer I liked more, a relatively meh drinking experience. 88+

Blackberry, raspberry, iron, violets, crushed granite, blood, Acadia wood. Medium body. Very drinkable. Went well with tomato vegetable soup. Drink now or in the next 2-3 years.

A decent wine with BBQ food. If this wine is a good price go for it.
