Decanted for 1hr whilst enjoying some excellent champagne and Kaluga caviar. Enjoyed at Ariana in Bend as part of a 7 course V-day meal. It paired especially well with a wild mushroom based pasta dish. Earth, chalk, loads of minerals but still quite smooth and balanced. Medium dark color and dark red fruits. I agree with the Decanter review and drinking window. Worth opening a bottle now, if you have multiple bottles.

2018 red Burgundy tasting (Freiheit Vinothek, Ulm, Germany): *** all wines decanted 1-2h before and tasted double blind *** Glass: Zalto Burgundy This was the only bottle not decanted but popped and poured. Clear, deep ruby color. Clean nose, still closed needs a lot of time and air to unfold. Quite cool taste, lean, dense, some green notes, herbaceous. Seems the most rustic/rough wine in this flight, probably because of the lack of air. It gets softer, rounder with time in the glass. Good lengths, very juicy. Very young, needs time. 91-92+

“Musigny in short pants”

Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé Cellar Visit and Tasting (Chambolle-Musigny): An educational visit with François Millet. A wet 2018 spring was followed by a hot summer summer and drought. An August 30th harvest was the earliest at Vogüé since 1895! Everything was ripe - flesh, seeds and skin. The wine is 50-75% done with ML, based on cuvee, but there is so little malic acid that it is barely apparent. François says this is a vintage that truly expresses summer.
Barrel tasting at the domaine. Only 50% ML complete. Enchanting aromas of red and black cherry with red berry notes. Wonderful spice and floral support. Massive on palate with the malic acid giving a slightly rough edge for now. But otherwise so rich, dense and long with 91-94 point potential.

Deep ruby colour. Ripe aromas of dairy products, dark berry, spice and floral hint. More concentrated than the Village wine. Firm tannins. 89+
