enjoyed this with some prime rib roast for New Year's Day! Everyone loved it, the balance between the Cab and Shiraz was perfect. Some bright red fruit on the front, followed by the complexity of the cabernet.

I retry every once in a while, but I don't like these styles of wines. Well there have been exceptions, most notably a '98 Fox Creek GSM, I'm not a fan of the Marquis wines... Or the Two Hands, Tait, and others. This wine seemed way over the top to me. There was a huge streak of bitterness on this from both alcohol and wood, and the wine finished hot. At first there was a promising, slightly stinky, bacon fat nose. The concentration bordered on painful, and only through time could I make out individual characteristics like mint and mocha elements. No real structure to speak of, just that soupy filling... I rate it an 85 based on the fact that it succeeds on many levels of what it is aiming for, but can go no higher due to the lack of balance...

13 years old. Very strong in alcohol. Should have earlier.
