  • Purchased for $15. I only got this because my young son picked it off the shelves at the wine store. I try to stay away from Esporao, only because I feel they're mass-produced wines and don't capture the essence of Portugal. However, this was a pleasant surprise. Dark, almost opaque purple. The nose seemed tight and not giving much, but the palate exhibited notes of plum, raisin, dark fruits, spice and hints of vanilla (oak). I like the label on the bottle, because it gives some of the harvest and aging information. It's fun to read. All in all, this was a really nice wine and I'm glad I got it. This isn't anything spectacular, but it's pretty solid for the price. Grade: B+

  • Not really sure if this bottle is slightly cooked, but colour seems fine. Past vintages where nowhere as overriped as this one. It's fine to drink, has some complexity, well integrated with wood, acidity is fine, but there's no telling what the 4 grapes bring to this, feels flat.
