Strawberries and light oak toast on the nose. Bitter cherries and mild tannins with good acidity on the palate. This appears off-balance and slightly bitter. Second bottle with similar traits. Maybe the wine is going through an awkward phase? Not recommended unless this improves with more age.

Le Roi (Guillaume Bistro, Sydney): Black very red fruit, plenty of spice, slightly leathery, stalks. In the mouth it's juicy, fruit sweet initially then tight grippy talc textured tannins close things down. Long finishes with alcohol warmth . Food required for me.

Annual K&L Grand Burgundy Tasting (K&L Wines, San Francisco): Ruby with a light edge. Some funk and char. Lush, oaky, medium weight. Slightly sweet, red fruit attack with lots of obvious wood char. Not that long, and the oak renders it astringent. $300??? Maybe the "Ultra" part stands for ultra-ripoff. I continue to be flummoxed by this producer.

Light and pleasant…tight tannins at the end…needs time…
