  I am a lucky girl that I get to taste another bottle of the 1999 Westrey Abbey Ridge. This is one of my favorite vineyards, anyways, but Westrey crafts this wine so beautifully. The nose was baking spice, some earth churned up with forest floor leaves and funk and dark red cherries, and a whiff of ripe strawberries atop stones warmed by the sun. Some dried cherry too. The mouthfeel is the kind that talks back to you but in a conversational way. Not silky tannins, but beautiful texture and some richness. Very well integrated flavors and seamless segueways here from mid-palate on down to the finish. I tasted Oregon black cap berries strewn on the forest floor, not chalky, but a dry earthiness and a hint of mocha java. All there, primary and tertiary components, a fantastic bottle with roast chicken, sauteed wild mushrooms, morels, chanterelles, King Oyster mushrooms with a touch of ras el hanout. Enhanced by an earthy starch like speltberries or farro. Kudos David Autrey and Amy Wesselman.

  Dundee Hills Tasting Event In Portland (Portland, OR): Cherries and nutmeg show on the nose, along with some interesting scents of asphalt and tomato. The texture on the palate is fantastic and rich, but still soft. Full blackberry flavors start early, and linger long. There's a hint of dust on the finish, as well as some enticing caramel. Everything is delicious here, and fully intact. Excellent!
