Two hours after opening the wine is starting to unfurl.
Bright, fresh red fruits dominated the wine at first, but the more time went on additional elements began to emerge. First it was a dash of brown spice. That was followed by fennel and a fresh shovelful of damp earth. Finally a clear note of nectarine came through on the finish. Tannins clamped down on the finish, but not painfully, just a reminder that patience is a virtue.

Pale magenta. Nose heavily influenced by stems in the forefront, followed by a savory, darker fruit profile. Some earthy loam in the background with air. Similar on the palate again with stems on the palate and dark, savory character. High acidity spiking at times with medium+ still drying tannins but smooth and not bitter at all. No hints of oak at all even though I'm sure it's been aged in oak.
Really unique wine that prominently has a strong stemmy character. I haven't really seen this degree of whole cluster character in wines outside of some northern rhones and beaujolais. Very unique. Wine is well made without intrusive oak, but it definitely caters to particular palates. Further bottle age unlikely to subsume the stemmy flavors as it's a core element of this wine and probably a signature of this particular producer. This wine is not typical for either Oregon or Burgundy -- it's unique in and of itself. People who appreciate this style may rate this much higher.

In spite of the notes to leave this alone, I chose to open my first Goodfellow Family Cellars. Beautiful aromatics. Tart cherries. and cassis on the palate with licorice at the very end. Fairly tannic but tannins are velvety. A beauty.

With some air, cooler Morey like blue fruits, perfume and florals emerge. It's firm and structured , yet beautifully balanced. Cool fruits, spice and florals along with some mossy cooler herbs. The following day, more spice and floral notes. This has serious depth and balance, but is shutting down pretty hard. The quality is hard to miss, but I would hold mine for several years. I have little doubt this will emerge after its slumber, but I would hold for now.

Spicy and herbal black cherry, this is the most savory and stern of the '17 single parcel wines. Still lots of fun with food, but I will hold longer.
