This is a super value from the Rhone Valley! Moderate plus intensity of aromas which make me think of macerated blackberries and Fruit Roll-Up, black licorice, coffee and a wisp of lavender on the breeze at the end of a hot summer day. The palate explodes with flavor, then slowly fades to reveal ripe tannins felt along the gums. The wine is fresh, medium-bodied and the alcohol is well-integrated. Served at cellar temperature.

I’m not sure I’ve ever had a Cote du Rhone from the village of Sablet. I certainly have never had one labeled as such. My initial impression is that this is just a notch above a standard southern CdR from a traditional producer so…I guess it’s about what one should expect. While the label states 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah, the Syrah really makes an impact here. The red cherry fruit from the Grenache actually came across sort of funky…in the reductive way that Syrah can often be. There was a sanguine character about it with some purple flowers too. Medium-lowish tannins and medium acidity. This is a wine for drinking now and over the next couple years, preferably with a hearty meal.
