Popped and poured. Deep, dark red. Big, ripe cherry nose. Kind of an exotic nuance with something suggestive of Madeira. Very faint but adds to the intrigue. Very ripe wine in the mouth, but has a nice impression in the mouth, not heavy or tannic or overbearing. Not to say it doesn't have tannin--it does. But the fruit predominates. A fun wine to drink. 5-13-15-8: 91/100.
Decanted 6hs and first time with this producer. Ok, right off the bat, lets confirm this was a very different red and heck of a lot fun to drink. Didn’t start out that way as the first few sniffs had me thinking this was like an Amarone that had gone off the rails…. Very raison -like, port, you get the idea. Adding confusion to my senses was an oxidative trait. The palate however completely re-aligned things; a big wine for sure, and showing a lot of upfront black fruits – double dark cherry etc, but then a big wave of tannins hit along with an irresistible volcanic quality, almost like a quality Taurasi or other Aglianico based red. I thought it stuck the landing. As a p.s. I found a little left over this am and the nose smelled a lot more fresh so perhaps a lot more air was needed. Anywho, I’m going to get another bottle and see what happens in 5 or so years. Love the label.

I just had a glass of the 2014 Terre Nere Guardiola - by the looks and smell of this wine, you would never know these vineyards are only about 100 miles apart! Not surprisingly given the grape, this is a much darker colored wine than the Guardiola. Ripe, heady blackberry fruit on the nose. But nicely balanced, in an oversized sort of way, on the palate. Wines made from Nero d'Avola are not truly in my sweet spot from a palate standpoint, but if I'm going to drink one, I do like Gulfi's take on the grape.

Got to get more of this! Very fruit-forward, with black fruit and acid, balanced by tannins. Great bottle.

Excellent wine. Copious amount of fruit with the perfect amount of acidity. Every sip has you coming back for more.
