I have been working through some of these LI wines I've had for a while because they really need to be drunk. This was was after significant decanting at about 68 degrees. In Appearance, this wine was clear and still had medium+ garnet color that faded a little toward brick at the rim. The Nose was clean and developed with medium intensity of aromas of cedar, dried leaves, scorched earth, a little tar, and some tobacco. The tertiary aromas are really coming through. The fruit is there--red fruit, mostly raspberry and a little cranberry--but it is much more subdued. The Palate here was dry, medium in body and alcohol, it still has very good medium+ acidity and tannin. The flavor profile is medium with notes of red fruit again, like cranberry and raspberry, along with a floral note and some smoky, sweet spice and notes of dried leaves and tobacco. Overall, a very good wine that has held up well to this, but is definitely drinking now! It may even be slightly past peak, as the fruit is certainly fading.

Wolffer does some great stuff, and this Merlot should have a right-bank Bordeaux feel to it, but it is of age now and needs to be enjoyed in the next few years.

Nice mature merlot flavors. Aromatically compelling. Dark cherries and long finish. Well done.
