  • Not a boring New World red but somewhat awkward. You get the South Africa burnt rubber thing, but it’s a quite savoury wine. Wild and raw, even. Quite animalistic at opening, most if goes away quickly. Smells ripe but bitter, with camphor and mint notes. Full-bodied, high acidity and chewy tannin make it quite rustic, almost Italian-like, which I like, but on the other hand it’s a bit too edgy and unforgiving. Give it a year, time might soften it.

  • A trip to South Africa's Coastal Region with Reni, Rainer and Bert. Day 9, Klein River Valley and Stellenbosch. Tasted at the winery, with hospitable owner and winemaker Nick Gebers.

A bled of Shiraz, Pinotage, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Dark ruby in colour. Red and dark fruit, a hint of mint, spices and again that bretty, wild, gamy note already prevalent in the last two wines, with good acidity, dry, slightly coarse tannin and good length of the bitter finish. Very dry. And very young. Confirms that the Post House wines generally need time. Hold. NR
