  • Racy cherry and blueberry. High toned and bright. Smoke and slate notes add depth. Not complex, but plays a couple notes quite well.

  • 15.0% abv. Dark garnet color, clear. This wine was challenging for me compared to other Auberts (I have whites and reds going back 7 years). It came off as too acidic, which may bode well for a very long and interesting life, but today I recommend decant for several hours, perhaps even a day. I drank a glass on pnp and left bottle in cellar for 24 hours and it was still quite tight. Hiding beneath that acid and tannins were some tremendous spicy, earthy, red fruited flavors. This wine also lacked (in a good way) that cola profile which seems all too prevalent in CA pinots these days. Will sit on the remaining bottles for another 5 years.

  • Notes of cherries, cardamom, a touch of raspberry and faint menthol note. Silky smooth on the entry and very well integrated. The texture of this wine is very appealing. Displaying a wonderful harmony and complexity and also carries the alcohol very well. Very nice wine!

  • Color is an intense shade of ruby beveled by sharp and apparent alcoholic tears.

Double decanted, smells lightly spiced with intense aromas of cherry, inky cranberry and red fruit dominating the nose.

The palate is big and rich with more cherries that originates from sauce or syrup, cranberry tartness and acidity, some spicy, savory inflections of earth. Alcohol (15%) is actually well integrated but requires a massive frame to carry it.

On a few instances I wondered if things were too big or too loud, or I felt that they toed the line between decency and gratuitousness. It's a unique experience to be sure and one that I might even opt to repeat in the future as there is clearly great skill on display and I enjoy these kinds of wines.
