I admire the recovery of heritage varieties. This variety just needs a little more work to express its potential. This 2016 is acidic and sharp, with VA and sour fruit.

This is easily the most interesting / innovative wine in the Torres Spain output. It reminds me very much of the Xarel-lo based wines of Celler Credo which is another Penedés producer that I love. Produced from an ancient, almost extinct varietal, this comes across as a pretty singular, serious white. Medium gold in the glass. The nose is expressive with lots of chalky, minerally notes, bruised apple, roasted pear, almond, white flowers, and honey along with some oxidative aromas. The palate is very poised and crisp on entry fanning out into a broader, richer profile with a plenty of nutty, minerally flavours along with a little ripe stone fruit character, pineapple, beeswax and fennel seed. It finishes long with just a touch of bitterness. At nearly 5 years of age this feels in its prime but with the potential to go longer. A little overpriced but well worth seeking out.

13.0% - Clear, pale & light gold / clean, med to pronounced intensity - citrus flesh, green apple, freshly cut herbs, shellfish / dry, high racy acidity, med to light body, pronounced intensity, persistent finish of crushed rocks and tangy lemon twist. Vibrant, energetic and incredibly fresh, this one screams for oysters!

Very fresh with pineapple aromas and oxydative notes (in a positive way). Medium length on the finish. Very interesting/original wine.
