Intensely mineral and rare Priorat white blend. Hard to say this wine is like “X” because it really is its own thing, and that makes it quite special. Acidity is surprisingly good for a hot dry region, but not going to appease the acid heads. There’s just so much rocky, slate-y goodness here from those licorella soils, I keep coming back into the glass. Who says soil doesn’t impact flavor? Bullshit. This wine is the clearest evidence you can find to debunk that argument.

This is a superb blend of Grenache Blanc and Macabeo. Grown in "Llicorella"or the slate found all over Priorat, in vineyards with altitudes of 300-500m. Fermented in oak barrels and vats, there is some skin contact. Aged for 12 months in 1.2HL vats, and 6 months in stainless steel. The end result is an amazing, flavourful wine with flowers and a hint of minerality on the nose, while the palate showed a lot of minerality, with quince and pear, and an opulent mouthfeel. It's just a really sumptuous wine. Drank this bottle at Compartir, in Barcelona. An amazing accompaniment to the seafood part of the meal, including clams and sushi tuna - “tuna cannelloni.” It’s drinking well with food, but IMO this will be even better in 3-5 years and should have no problem cruising past age 10.

Monthly Tuesday group "The Dead Sparrow": Spanish white wines (By AG): Beautiful and complex bouquet with white and yellow fruits, spiciness and vanilla. On the palate beautiful yellow fruits, marzipan, well dosed oak, elegant acidity, a pleasant touch of sweetness and a good length.
