  • Checking in on bottle 1 of 2. Bacon/jerky aromas, fresh herbs, tobacco, as before. A little tight, though yielded well to decanting. A mid-weight, elegant wine despite labelled 14.8% ABV, silky, round texture with pure concentrated blackberry flavors. Oak is well integrated/non obvious. Fine tannins on the finish, good grip. Alcohol shows on the nose from time to time, though far from dominant.

Hold next bottle for 4-8 years. Still young, though accessible. If this builds tertiary complexity, will be excellent.

  • Remarkably floral nose - of a specific flower, too, although I can't name it from memory. Not overpowering, just surprisingly realistic. You can almost feel the pollen in the air (in a hypoallergenic sort of way!). The floral notes hold in the taste, with a lively spice kick added, along with notes of chocolate-covered strawberries towards the finish.

  • Comes across rather different from the 2017 vintage. Where the 2017 was up front in its deeply concentrated fruit, this was more about bacon, tobacco and basil. Definitely needs some age to integrate, as does the 2017, but this is rather intriguing and will be interesting to compare in a few years.
