  • My last bottle of this, served it blind to two fellow tasters with a combined 50 or so years working in the wine biz. Their consensus score was 92pts.

  • Last bottle in the collection. Splash decanted from the fridge and left in there for 30 mins and tasted three pours. Initially not bad, but over the course of a meal within the first 30 minutes, intense sour and a lot of mineral bitter that was not pleasant, and both profiles started to dominate. I suspect this wine was better upon release, but six years in, not so good.

  • For the value and for $25 + tax and under, this is a fantastic value / everyday casual home drinking Chablis 1er cru. The 2017 vintage's back label mentions the climat/vineyard blend (2018 does not), which combines two: Vau Ligneau and Vaugiraut. Which make you wonder what's in 2018....perhaps it's like Petit Chablis or Chablis village where the blend is unknown (unless a distributor or importer gets that information specifically somewhere on a spec sheet). I bought multiple bottles upon release so now it has some good age to it. The color has become a bit more darker/golden, and without putting it in refrigeration, a splash decant and it was ready. The nose was a rather interesting vanilla like cream (just the smell) and on the palate, a little bit of pear, apple, lemon, and on the mid palate is when there is an expansive bitterness of lemon pith and rind, with some minerality, and the acidity seems a bit more mellow compared to last year. Yes you can age lower cost wine, although this is far from complex compared to other climats and more well regarded producers....so you do get what you pay for. Went nicely with a thick slab of grilled salmon and some cauliflower sauteed with onions and garlic. Maybe I'll wait till another year and see how the next bottle evolves.
