A bit of a disappointment after reading some of the reviews. This was a serviceable chard, but had a slightly unusual petrol-like aspect to the palate and finish. Not as good as a previous bottle, so perhaps some weird flaw...

Appearance: medium(+) dark clear yellow/gold. No gas or sediment and medium tearing
Nose: medium intense aromas of yellow apple and pear, vanilla, and toast. Definitely a lot of oak!
Palate: medium acidity, medium(+) bodied, smooth/slightly oily textured, dry, medium/medium(+) balanced and medium complexity. Medium intense flavors of autumn leaves, saline, and pear (although the fruit is a little subdued). A lingering oaky and decaying leaves (in a good way!) finish.
I love Charles Smith Wines, and this did not disappoint. Very oaky and somewhat lean with an elongated finish reminding me of the smell of fall when the leaves are on the ground. I think it would pair well with dishes containing nuts and fall vegetables (e.g. parsnips, squash, etc.). Lovely!
