From an impeccably stored bottle, the 1980 Gentaz bursts from the glass with a captivating bouquet of red and black raspberries, woodsmoke, coco, wet steel and violets: the aromatics are just remarkable. On the palate the wine is expansive, very refined, and ethereal, with vibrant sappy acids and a bright core of crunchy fruit. There is something glossy, suave and effortless about the wine's texture that draws one back to the glass. Fascinating.

Eclectic Dinner- clean lightish color, full nose of saddle and smokey meats with a trailing of dark fruits. Wine had great balance and length . Pleasure to drink

SOBER Tasting (JG's place): Nose of cedar and pure fruit, with a touch of earth. MMMmmmm....beautiful wine. Floral perfume with wonderful pure fruit. Excellent, but the finish doesn't live up to the rest of the wine.

Gentaz dinner. First up and didn't disappoint. Translucent ruby. Subtle aromatics. Unusually clean fruit for Rhone. Elegance and balance.
