Smells more woody, like a workshop wood kinda character. He notes that the '64 is more robust than the '74. And the flavor profile has changed as well. Burnt sugar. Trickle.

Sammamish Christmas Tasting (Sammamish, Washington): Bottle in 2013. Clear, amber-orange in color. Light cinnamon and cedar on the nose. Lots of expressive acidity with noticeable tannins on the palate. There is a rustic quality to the finish on this wine that slightly takes away from the overall rich finish.

Bottled in 2013. Pale amber color. The nose is muted and a bit off. Maybe some mild bottle stink. On the other hand, the palate is excellent! Complex caramel, praline, preserved lemon. Long finish. Decent complexity. Medium bodied. An excellent Colheita.

Waited years for this one....Great vintage for port, as well as, for yours truly... Big fan of port, but have never had one so caramel coloured...it was beautiful...We opened the bottle and smelled almost like sweet maple syrup...the real Canadian kind, not the Mrs. Butterworth's on which I fondly grew up. Beautiful rich golden caramel colour. It looked golden and viscous, but went down beautifully ...very much unlike the maple syrup it looked to be, and more like a sweet golden nectar. Tasted hints of maple syrup, toffee and dried, sweet raisin. Very, very mellow alcohol giving it a nice smooth round finish. I loved this bottle and happy I waited so long to open....however, have sunk into a mild depression as it is now gone.....Ha..!!!

Toffee, pralines, cocoa and dried nuts. Lovely layers of flavors, but lacks electric acidity to push it over into the outstanding category. Good freshness, but not super precise. Perhaps this will improve on subsequent days. UPDATE: No improvement on day 2 and 3.
