Community Tasting Notes (4)

  • Blinded. Served cold. Wine initially didn't show much bouquet, but one could certainly feel/taste the weight, core-density on the palate, with a good dose of minerality. Fast-forward, we moved on to the reds; Before end of evening, we decided to re-visit another pour of this. By then, the wine had warmed up (in btl), and lol, the nose showed cardboard! Perplexing, that none of us picked this up when it was first served. Not a representative btl, I suppose. Will be interesting to try this again some time...

  • Very fine and elegant particularly for such a vintage. A tricky options wine: nobody chose Batard and nobody chose 2018. I think it would be more complex with a few more years. It may be that by picking early in a warm year avoids the problems of overripe and low acid, but maybe lacks some character. I expected a bit more richness. I do like the maker's approach and I buy a range every year.

  • Some honeysuckle on the nose along with pure white peach and lemon fruits. It is rich, dense and sappy with something cool and minerally lurking below the flesh. It is beautifully balanced and whilst possesses the power of Bâtard, it is an elegant version. Length is terrific.
