  • Had with dumplings and duck at grand opening of Zoe Tong in Austin.

2017 was a weird year for WV but this wine is smack dab in its prime. Classic Willamette style, leaning towards Old World with very elegant and earthy palate. Fruit was present but overshadowed by earthy and mineral notes. More figs and prunes than fresh red fruit.

  • Concentrated. Medium acid. Cherry, currant, spice. Nothing I would rush out to buy again but still good. It has a longer finish. The finish is a bit tart. This is a 2017 I am having in 2023. It still has shelf life. Tastes like a cooler Northern American Pinot. Almost a forest floor note in this one. It’s a pinot that can handle food.

  • Sweet black fruit, citrus and a touch of vanilla on the nose. More cherry, plums, almonds and leather on the palate. Subtle oak, low to medium tannins, nice acidity, overall good balance. Had the 2016 last year and this is consistent in quality. Very approachable with a decant (which is recommended) but a couple of years in the cellar may result in some improvement.

  • The wide variety of interpretations is interesting. I enjoyed this wine. It was light to medium bodied. Cherry was the fruit that hit me, with soft tannins and forward acid. Lovely pairing with salmon za’atar and grilled vegetables. Upon first opening the acid was a bit much but after letting it settle and warm somewhat from the fridge the change was evident.

  • I’m 3 bottles into this wine and have not found a lick of consistency. Bottle one had no character but was PnP. Bottle 2 was allowed to breathe for about an hour and formed with a nice balance of summer berries and slight acidic finish. Bottle 3 is TBD but first glass was flat albeit the nose gave way to promise of something finally filling in. I’m not so sure this doesn’t need another 2-3 years. 89-90 rating.
