  • Is drinking well with the acidity now fully integrated. Expressive lemon-butter-diesel nose, crisp and vibrant. Bone dry, medium-full bodied pairing well with the spicy linguine alle vongole

  • I love Riesling, especially with a bit of rubber, petro-chem to them. This is over the top though.

Medium+ intense nose with dominant aromas of rubber hose, burned tires, fairly developed with some oxidized aromas of ripe apples, orange rinds and funky wash cloth.

High, tart acidity. Initally slightly fizzy. Medium(-) body, medium intensity and a decent finish. This feels rough and unbalanced on the palate. Not impressed, I can't see this getting much better.

  • Opened this without looking at prior notes. Big mistake. This is not the typical riesling, as it seems to have about 0% residual sugar (not the pairing for a German dinner I was expecting). But....very good, and it has continued to improve.

On the nose, a bit of petrol is about the only thing that might give this away as a Riesling. On the palate, very dry to the point that my wife was guessing "sauvignon blanc". Still a good acidic backbone, but much more balanced against the fruit than it was on release. While the fruit has come forward, this is in no way "fruity". Hints of minerality or tannins on the backend....not sure which but there is a slight sense of dryness on the finish. Overall a nice wine that might continue to improve with time. This is neither light or refreshing. It's not one to put in the wine bota for a winter ski outing. It is a nicely crafted dry wine with significant acidity that begs for the right food pairing. I could see this with grilled shrimp dusted with cajun spices.

  • I fully agree with anpe003. Bought a case of this wine but was initially disappointed because of the dominating acidity. On their website they say you can keep this for at least 15 years so decided to leave it for a while. When tasting this again I was happily surprised by how it had developed. Wine has opened up and developed distinct secondary aromas. Will probably improve further with a few more years.

  • Had this 3+ years ago, and found it to be overly acidic and thin. Since I didn't like it then, I placed a bet that maybe this would evolve into something better with a few years. And in fact, that's exactly what has happened.

On the nose, a bit of petrol, some acidic-laden fruits. On the palate, the acidity isn't fully resolved, but it's well on its way, with a remarkable fruit richness that wasn't in evidence last time around. More Alsatian than German in terms of sweetness. A few more bottles left, and I'd be inclined to let them sit for another few years.

Update: the longer this is open, the better it gets (e.g more integrated/balanced). Even G. likes it, and she normally hates Rieslings (especially those from Germany). While I was originally disappointed in these, thinking that even the $6 I paid for them was too much, I'm singing a different tune today.

(Kilikanoon Riesling Mort's Reserve) Group's #6 (my #2) – 44 pts; 0, 3, 0, 4 – Canary yellow color; light petrol and tart stone fruit nose; light-medium bodied, sweet grapefruit palate with slightly oily texture and good acidity; medium finish (i.e., a good dry Riesling, per my blind guess)
