  • 3 bottles, different ratings, but this 88 is best expressed as being that the drinking window is now open and the previous reviews (86,87) were before this was all settled down, which it is now. I would say this seems to be a cooler country version of Syrah; not a fruit or alcohol bomb and it had enough oomph to pair with chicken mole' and red rice&beans. Quite enjoyable and worth the price. McPrice Meyers- please distribute to Denver and northern Colorado!

  • I like it, I guess. This one we let breathe longer and aerated and it seemed a little better than the previous bottle, though less impressive than we had hoped. Some time back, ordered a mixed case by mail from McPrice Myers and it seems across the board the quality has deteriorated from when Barrel 27 made this. Not sure why. This Syrah seemed to be more of a cool climate one, which made it more approachable than one that was an alcohol or fruit bomb, that this is not. My tepid review as a write this tells me we're probably done with McPrice Myers, but they don't make bad wines; their previous reputation was pretty good wine for the price, but what we're tasting is nothing special for the price, but not bad.
    Yep, nothing special.

  • Typical basic Central Coast Syrah. Deep, dark fruit flavors predominate. We ran it through an aerator and let it breathe in a decanter, but either it was a tad too tight or its as good as its going to get, which is not bad, but I am on the fence as to whether I would repurchase at this price. Two more bottles left, so going to give them at least to the end of the year.
This would pair well with grilled burger or pizza, basic food just like this wine.

  • Impenetrable squid ink depth saturation and concentration of black cherry color that defies light penetration. Tightly bound sophisticated and reticent nose of vanilla laced blackberry as appreciated while still on the bush on a hot summer afternoon, with no appreciable presence of the usually imparted aspects from 18 months of French oak barrel aging. Along with 88% Syrah (Sirah), there is 10% Petite Sirah, and 2% Viognier.
Dense blue-black mouth coating fruit on the palate, with adequate acidity as to avoid any hint of flabbiness, and although the tannins are silky at this young age, the wine is well structured and completely integrated with the alcohol (15%) component. The finish is long and rewarding of lingering fruit compote and vanilla bean.
While not usually able to detect the aroma or flavor of specific flowers, I can appreciate a late evening sweet floral sense I experienced growing up in the Deep South as a youth.
I was looking for a pairing with grilled lamb burgers and roasted vegetables this evening and this first blush sampling of this wine will be spot on. This is one of the most quietly brilliant and lusciously hedonistic expressions of this type of Syrah based blend, at this or 2-3 times the price point, I have encountered.

  • Very tasty. Bold fruit. A little hot. Med plus tannins. A really nice combination. Definite buy more
