Community Tasting Notes (7) Avg Score: 89.9 points

  • PnP. Nicely developed from the last time I tasted it in May 2021.
Matchstick, pear, baked apple, lemon citrus, flint and stones. Good acidity. It will certainly go a few more years, but this is in a great window for drinking (at least for my taste). Great value.

Day 2: Still has the flint/smoke notes, plus more lemon citrus. There's still great ripe pear and apple. Comes across as better overall to me today than yesterday, so bumping the score up a point. (89 to 90)

  • Reduction on the nose. Chablis style and delicious but not quite as good as the '19. Tastes just a bit sweet which is distracting, could use a bit more acidity.

  • Picked up a couple more bottles and decided to try it again since I last tasted it in 7/2020. Matchstick, pear, flint, stones, lemon peel, some toasty oak. Showing a little more now than it did previously, but this still needs some time. The fruit is a little muted in the nose but you get more lemon citrus, pear, and apple on the palate. Medium+ acidity gives it a good backbone. Good balance overall. It's all there but it needs time to develop. You can definitely drink it now, but you'll be well rewarded if you can cellar it several more years. My guess is it's likely best 5-8 years from the vintage (so 2023 - 2026). I have a feeling most of my remaining bottles won't make it that long. A steal at $20 and a stellar deal for WV chardonnay. Blend of Durant and Whistling Ridge fruit.

  • I really liked this one. Lots of apple on the nose and palate. Clean, tart finish. Drank over 2 days; not much change between Day 1 and Day 2. If I recall correctly, this is mostly declassified Durant fruit with the remainder from Whistling Ridge. Great QPR.

  • Match stick and pear on the nose, subdued round fruit on the palate. Texturally, acid-driven; didn't decant but recommend it, as it just never quite came together in a cohesive whole. Still, I look forward to trying other bottlings.
