Community Tasting Notes (5) Avg Score: 93.9 points

  • Serially tasted over a two-hour period from a bottle that had been popped and poured, this medium-to-deep garnet Nebbiolo continued to evolve aromatically. Loaded with red fruits, exotic spices, iron, loamy earth, tobacco and lavender on both the nose and palate, it is a medium-to-full-bodied, fresh red with plentiful rustic tannins. The wood and alcohol (14.5%) are fairly well-assimilated at this early stage, but it is the wine's tannic structure that flexes its muscle throughout the dense mid-palate and lengthy finish. Give this one some sleepy time in the cellar and your patience will undoubtedly be rewarded. An even higher score may be merited as this loosens its tannic grip. Drink 2028-2046.

  • Tasted at the cantina with Giuseppe Cavallotto. Spent 5 years in old, large Slavonian botti. Bottled 9 months ago (February 2022) 14.5% ABV. Dark, nearly opaque garnet. Very fragrant with rose petals, spices (white pepper?) red cherry and pomegranate fruit and distinct minerals and turned earth. Great acid and tannic structure. Palate has a rich chewy almost unctuous nature with savory elements, cherry and minerals. Very long finish. Lovely wine that will continue to improve for many, many years. FYI - in years where this Riserva is not bottled the wine is blended in the Langhe Nebbiolo. Marvelous wine that is balanced and elegant more than powerful in comparison to the Bricco Boschis. Love it. But unfortunately have none in my cellar.

  • Quite shy right now- austere even. Still exhibiting that transparency and tightly wound energy you might expect from this producer. Real freshness alongside serious structure, I'm sure this'll be something special in a few years

  • Tasted at winery. Mid red, slight bricking. Brassy nose, liqueur cherries, dried thyme, rose, chocolatey palate.

  • Barolo Trip; 4/3/2022-4/7/2022 (Barolo): Third wine tasted at Cavallotto, but side by side with the 2016 San Giuseppe Riserva.

Holy structure. This will last a long time. Lower altitude, thicker soils.
Immediate red fruit on the nose, ripe strawberry. Long finish still feeling the wine and acidity 30+ seconds later. Really, really well made wine of a high quality.
