This rich but mineral-driven Chardonnay best barrel blend needs another few years to show its cards, but it has all the marks of a singular wine (that, alas, I opened way too soon). Light yellow in color; medium in body; aromas of lemon peel, quartz, green apple, and ocean air. Flavors of lime, grapefruit, slate, and chalk, with a sour and nervy finish that still has some oak (e.g., nutmeg) to integrate. Barrel selection from the La Carrière, Belle Côte, and Ma Belle-Fille vineyards. 14.6% alcohol.
This was far more concentrated - and less welcoming - than a 2018 Ma Belle-Fillie opened on the same night. Even though I prefer opening whites on the earlier end, I need to remember that these PM Chards need at least four years after vintage to hit their stride - and this doozy needs even more time. 94+ at the moment (after a two hour decant), but please learn from my mistake: give this time, and it should be something very special.

Outstanding - bold, yet smooth. Among the very best CA chards
