Still seems very young. Colour showing some age though. Good cork. Lots of sediment. Very Rhône nose, nice, ripe. Pleasing palate but, for me, a tiny bit too much alcohol. I decided year ago to not buy Crozes from light vintages, now I've decided to keep away from ripe ones too. There must be some in the middle! edit: just finishing some left in the fridge. I'll keep the few I have left for a couple of years. Serve cool and give lots of air.

The first bottle four years ago must have seemed pretty ordinary, as i didn't write a note, but this second and last one is very enjoyable, dark red and black fruits, tar, and smoke, lots of flavor in a taut package. Enjoyed with maple grilled rack of lamb.

Crozes sudiste, qui manque de fraicheur et d'eclat au nez, et se montre fatigué en bouche. Pas tres fan de cette syrah aux accents sudistes... Pas persuadé que cette cuvée se garde plus de 5 ans...

(YANN CHAVE Crozes ROUVRE) Odds Dear Friends, Below are a few of my favorite wines sampled over the December holiday season but quantities are too small to offer on their own - I'll call this an "odd and ends" offer that's anything but. 2004 Palladian Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley (St. Helena) Finally, a Napa Valley Cabernet full of breed under $30. I have a true affinity for the Palladian - it shows restraint, moderate alcohol (13.0-13.5%) and a depth of elegance often missing in the Valley (with no loss of extractive intensity). Organically produced from the Jones' prime vineyard land next to the Harlan Reserve Project (in the golden zone of St. Helena), you will hear a lot more about this wine in the coming years...especially because they decided to price their grand vin within reason instead of for the trophy case. This is their very best wine and it's still priced at less than $30. Serious Napa Cabernet does not come at this price-point very often (not a winery's top wine, maybe a second or third wine) so take advantage. A pure Cabernet Sauvignon with a dash of Cabernet Franc that harkens to 1985 Spottswoode crossed with Pontet Canet. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED and EXTREMELY LIMITED at this price (we will have a second parcel in March). 2007 Scarbolo Sauvignon Grave (Friuli) While the red wines from this estate are not as convincing, Valter Scarbolo is in total command of Sauvignon and Pouilly-Fume fans will want to gorge on this lovely bottle of freshness grown on gravel soil influenced from alpine terrain and the Adriatic in the same day. This is the antithesis of what most think of in Friuli - it carries a sifted stone quality on a low-alcohol frame that is gorgeous (you will not find creamed, full-bodied nonsense) - I wish more producers in this region would take this wine under their wing and study its delicate and lovely style instead of pushing white varietals to the brink of glycerol (and alcoholic) explosion. One of the finest wines of its type...that sells for a song. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. 2006 Yann Chave Crozes-Hermitage "La Rouvre" Let's just say, this Syrah will be enjoyed by a rather large percentage of our email list...I'll leave it at that. EXTREMELY LIMITED 1989 Jarry Vouvray Moelleux (reserve) (750ml) (this is not the regular Vouvray or regular Moelleux) This was one of the more over-sold items last fall (I mean "over-requested") and many of you were not very happy about it-- after prodding since November, the Jarry's just gave us the last of it from their library (never moved since bottling) - I urge you to look up TN's on this fascinating Vouvray. If you like the 1989 Pinon Moelleux that's going around the US, try this. Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA CA9090 Italy9499 Rhone7590 Loire9260

Popped and poured. Consistent with my previous notes. In a nice place right now with silky tannins, perfumed bouquet and maraschino cherry palate.
