Nose: Tar, black plums, spiced cherry, soil, overall gives a deep impression. Palate: baked red plum, christmas spice; tangy tomato puree; polished tannins. The palate is certainly less dark and brooding than the nose suggests, and gives a brighter more Italian-like feel. To me the tanginess on day one is a bit too overpowering. Pretty consistent with my day one notes on day two.

Nose: Ripe cassis, graphite, and leather. Palate: Surprisingly lighter bodied than I expected with notes of barely ripe cranberries; in addition, the tannins were already surprisingly integrated for a relatively young tannat. I did have this wine side-by-side with the 2017 vieilles vignes from the same producer and to my preferences it's worth spending $5-10 for the older vines and the 100% tannat wine (compared to this one that is 60% tannat, 20% CS, and 20% CF).

Medium ruby color. Moderately intense aromas of dark fruit, spice, smoke, herbs. Dry, with elevated acidity but only moderate, surprisingly silky tannins. The fruit is ripe but not sweet, a little austere, but concentrated. Medium-bodied, 14°.
