Consumed with a main of pigeon breast on savoy cabbage with a sweet potato rosti. Well... First time for a venture for me into the Northern Rhone and I was a little surprised (disappointed?) by the lightness. I am more a "left bank Bordeaux - South Rhone - Rioja with a lot of umpf" drinker. Dark fruit? yes. Chocolate? maybe. Leather/Tobacco? ney. Wouldn't find it overly long, either. Enoyed it, though and will give it an other try as I think any heavier wine would have overpovered the still reasonably delicate pigeon.

Old Vs. New World with Bristol University Wine Circle (Goldney Hall, Bristol): This wine is excellent. Lots to say. On the nose, baked plums, chocolate, stewed dark fruits. If they made those sweets, 'millions' in grape flavour, this wine would smell of them. A bit floral in the background. Palate is lovely, like a rich, plum pie, warm and thick with more chocolate and a kind of port & plum reduction. Oak very much in the background. A little tannic on my teeth, could definitely do with a few more years. Long finish with coffee coming in at the end. At £11 it's not CHEAP but worth seeking out. I'm torn between 89 & 90 but there's so much here for me, it's got to be.
