Perhaps a notch down from the '95 and '96, but in a similar style and still a treat to drink. Rich. More of a "wine" than a "sparkler" in many ways. Does a nice job of walking the line between "rich" and "light on it's feet". Year in, year out, this is probably my favorite bottling from Champagne.

My second go at this wine. Pretty much the same as the first go. Again, a modest "Pop" and almost no flair to the cork. Few bubbles. Golden color and a hint of earth, honey and caramel as before but with more earth. Faint nose. Some tingling to the tongue despite the lack of bubbles. Again, interesting wine but could be much better. Perhaps entirely the fault of the bizarre corking method. This was not maderized.

Weird cork shape and cork secured with a metal bracket, not the usual twisted wire. Very subdued pop. Cork with barely any flair. Golden color. Delicious honey and caramel taste (without being sweet) though but nearly devoid of bubbles. Not maderized though. I would have rated this a 94 if it had bubbles and a nose as the taste was elegant. But given the lack of nose and bubbles, a 91.

Honey, apple, pear, brioche nose. It gives good deal of freshness and mineral. Medium finish.

Henri Giraud Masterclass Dinner (67 Pall Mall): (en Magnum) Rich complex but still fresh. A lovely sparkling white wine.
