Tasted after it’s age date so this tasting note is informational only and not a fair rating of this wine. This 2006 bottle was uncorked in 2024, yet was quite drinkable, lacked a little body and depth but notes of cherry and vanilla were present.

Consistent with other notes, just a bit older and not as coordinated. Drinkable immediately on opening. Red currant and maybe a bit of cherry. Also graphite. Smooth integrated tannins and a medium length finish. Drinkable, probably.

My last bottle of the '06. Glad I pulled it out tonight as it seems to be on the slide. It worked with many foods and held together over 3 hours of sipping it, but lacked interest. Mostly similar to my review of it back in 2009 - plum and marker.

Lovely wine. Compared to younger versions of this wine, it really smoothed out but still showed fruit and complexity that could be expected of a 90 pt wine. Drink now and for the next year or two.

(Descendientes de Jose Palacios Bierzo Petalos) #1; COLOR-dark; NOSE-really nice; good dark plum flavors wrapped around some cracked black pepper; very intense fruit; really focused; little clove; some V8 juice; TASTE-I get a nice basil & green pepper component; a really great, textured mouthfeel; great silkiness; great intense blackberry & mulberry; a little creaminess from the oak; this wine is very balanced; very polished; very intense; well-made; this is a SPECTACULAR effort that will last 5-7 years; JM-91; GV-92+
