While this was honest and regional with some dark fruit, a touch of black pepper and some good tannin nicely aging. It was disappointing for my expectations. I understand that the style changed to more restrained from the earlier vintages fruit/oak bombs but..... that what I like/expect from the Michael.. drink now with food. grrrrr

An almost understated shiraz, this has aged beautifully. Lots of glossy red fruits coming through now on the palate, along with blackberry, musk, pepper and spice. Lacks a bit of complexity but it is very polished and the flavours long.

Almost guessed this blind in a very beautiful part of the world in an unexpected sharing with great people. Asian spice, dark fruit, and pepper on the palate - a very subdued cloaking shiraz. Nose was also reticent. From a region known for cabs, this really interesting curve ball should last some time.

Once in a while you have a bottle of Shiraz that tastes unlike all the others. This 2004 Michael's Shiraz was one of those. I'm not rating it because frankly I don't know how. Suffice to say that out of the bottle the nose smelled rather like it was brewed in your coffee maker using nothing but black pepper and maybe a sprinkle of some exotic spice blend. The taste confirms the peppery nature of this wine. Oak is very present as is some black berry and mocha. The tannins are substantial and the wine is so young that I will wait to score it. I can afford it as I have 11 more to enjoy. A very interesting wine.

A bit of pepper adds interest, but otherwise a bit grapey in an understated way. Not very interesting, but solid.
