Half Century Magnum Lunch (La Trompette) (London): From Magnum and double decanted for a few hours. Very open, soft, ripe and ready. My first bottle showed an electric excitement but with butter, pastry and ripe fruit and the second perhaps a little restrained. This bottle follows the pattern and some thought it was quite developed already, another mentioning touches of banana / soap. I believe everyone enjoyed it and I’m not sure it needed the decant. This is good but quite a rich open wine and will go well with a creamy dish, fish, butter or the fantastic rabbit pasta we had.
Don’t be worried to open one now and see how they are going. No overt oak so ready to drink I think.

Magnum Mike's Half Century Blow Out (La Trompette): This was lovely - probably my pick of the whites. Hard to give it the attention it deserved but there was a real Puligny class to it, with a kind of acid precision but a generosity on the palate. Had been really enjoying 17 white burg recently but based on this showing 19 demands closer attention.

Magnum Mike's Magnificent Half Century (La Trompette): Magnum. My first time with a posh 2019 white since EP (which was conducted virtually!), and I'm glad I bought plenty of them as this was extremely encouraging. Whilst balanced and remaining in a classical register (per Jasper: "you can tell the grapes are ripe, but the terroir expresses itself most"), the wine was on the full-bodied and sexy side, with custard, butter and a hint of banana, and had a very long finish. Hedonistic, and lovely with the relatively rich dish.

Almost 2 years since last bottle and has certainly changed. The mineral Riesling type nose has gone. Nose actually quite reticent and takes time to come out. Palate is more on the cream and caramel side with great acidity still. Nose opens up and will be interesting to see where this goes. Will it blossom as just feels a little restrained .

From magnum. Aniseed then tons of overripe banana peel. Slippery, glycerin mouthfeel then just lots more banana peel.
